EUCHARISTEO

On page 31 of Ann Voskamp’s book, one thousand gifts, A Dare to LIVE FULLY Right Where You Are, she quotes from Luke 22:19, “And He took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to them…” She states that in the original language, “He gave thanks” reads “eucharisteo”. Over the next several pages, Voskamp unfolds for her audience the meaning of eucharisteo.
The root word of eucharisteo is charis, meaning “grace.” Jesus took the bread and saw it as grace and gave thanks. He took the bread and knew it to be gift and gave thanks. Eucharisteo… also holds its derivative, the Greek word chara, meaning “joy.” … the table of the euCHARisteo – the table of thanksgiving...
Charis. Grace/gift.
Eucharisteo. Thanksgiving.
Chara. Joy.
Ms. Voskamp then asks the question “Is the height of my chara joy dependent on the depths of my eucharisteo thanks?” The remainder of the book is a beautiful journey into the author’s personal transformation that came about by the simple act of giving thanks.
Eucharisteo - could it be the pathway to the fullest life?
